Welcome to Dorset Sling Library!
The library began in a café in Ringwood in May 2012 under the lovely Lucie Mann, who is still affiliated with the library today. There have been many volunteers, several peer supporters and a handful of consultants since it’s conception.
We currently meet twice a month in Bournemouth and Poole. Details are on the ‘when and where are meets’ tab.
The meets are run by qualified consultants, peer supporters and volunteers who all operate on a voluntary basis. We are all parents ourselves and have jobs outside of the library. The library itself is not for profit, meaning the hire fees cover running costs, the purchase of new slings, laundry expenses, insurance and ongoing training. We only carry Ergonomic, T.I.C.K.S compliant slings.
We typically welcome 10-20 people to each meeting, and we try to allocate 5-10 minutes per person. This allows time for you to have a demo and to try on two slings. If you require more than that a 1:2:1 is perhaps a better option. These start at £20 plus normal hire fees and deposit if slings are hired. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange.
When a meet is busy, we do sometimes demo slings in small groups, if the needs of the group are similar (i.e. newborns, toddlers)
We operate in an informal drop-in fashion so there is never a need to book, and we do not ‘reserve’ slings unless there is an exceptional circumstance.
